GFTV is a small, independent effort at bringing local TV-style news and events coverage to Grand Forks, B.C.
It’s a spin-off of the efforts started with the site Whats Up In Grand Forks(.com).
In whatsupgf we tried to show what was happening in the local community but found that real news didn’t really fit in the ‘booster’ role that whatsupgf was cast as … so we’re trying this as well. And if it works well we may fold whatsupgf into it.
You’re reading ‘we’ when many of you know there’s really just a ‘me’, Les Johnson. I’m using ‘we’ because I’m hoping I can entice others (like maybe you?) to help and contribute to this site. I’m local, you’re local. This is our community and we should be able to show the rest of the community what is happening and why without being beholden to some corporate headquarters elsewhere that have a ‘bigger picture’ to show. If we want to show a bigger picture then lets show it through the eyes of Grand Forks.
Along those same lines of community spirited media and community building efforts I ran a little contest you might (or might not) have heard of called Show Off Grand Forks. If you make videos or music or art and want to help show the world what a nice / exciting / wholesome place Grand Forks can be to visit, or settle down in, then think about helping out. The contest is over but the effort continues. Visit showoffgrandforks.com for more information.
