A Kalesnikoff logging truck headed to Midway with a load of lumber rolled off the road at the entrance to the Wilgress Lake rest stop at around 2PM Aug 1, 2013. The driver was able to exit the vehicle relatively unscathed and soon after passersby happened on the scene and were able to lend a hand controlling the fire that broke out and call for help with a Satellite Phone. Fire Rescue services from Greenwood and Grand Forks attended the scene along with RCMP and Forestry. Traffic was held back until about 3PM.
Thanks to Seton Phipps of Courtenay, B.C., who stopped with a co-worker and lent a hand and used their sat-phone to call for help.
