Council meetings of July 22 2013

Grand Forks City council had busy Monday with meetings in the morning and the evening.

The evening meeting was the Regular City Council meeting.

Highlights:

  • They bit the bullet and moved ahead with funding the Brand Marketing.
  • They did the big Bylaw switch in this meeting.
  • A simple development variance decision evolved into something more extended when a disagreeing neighbour showed up to make his feelings known.

Lightning Keeps Fire Rescue Busy

This afternoon we had a torrential downpour accompanied by Hail, Thunder and Lightning. The lightning ignited something flammable up on the mountain side above the old rail grade above College Road in the west end of the valley. (just across from the USCC Hall).

Because of the location it was up to the younger members of the Grand Forks Fire Rescue service to backpack tools and water up to the site and put it out. Watch below:

 

2013 Garden Tour

gallery 2 held their annual Garden Tour on July 6.
While we did not get to all the locations we did visit those in Grand Forks. The weather cooperated and so did our various hosts in letting us wander through their personal spaces and take pictures to show you what wonderful places they’ve created. The video below shows a bit of it:
