The line-up for who is appearing / what is happening on the stage:
All the vendor spots appeared to be full at the beginning of Saturday. You can see or yourself in the VR Walk through I did early in the morning. Once the video begins you can change the direction you are looking in by dragging around your mouse finger in the video.
This year’s parade went off smoothly with no stalls or waits. The weather was accommodating and the onlookers appreciative.
the area’s MP Richard Cannings was present (he even rode a bike in the parade) as was Local MLA Linda Larsen. The Pipe band began the day’s official kick off festivities. While I don’t have the speechifying I did capture the band proceeding to the stage. When the video begins the band is behind you so you will have to ‘turn around’ to see them . . .
For more information and a full list of who is appearing visit their website www.foundersday.ca or their Facebook page.
The GFI issued a statement Wednesday to announce this year’s GFI tournament is cancelled. That statement follows.
After much thoughtful consideration and discussion with stakeholders, the Grand Forks International Committee is saddened to make the difficult decision to Cancel this year’s Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament scheduled for June 26-July 2, 2018.
The impact of recent flooding has rendered business and accommodations damaged or destroyed, has depleted the necessary volunteer base required to operate the tournament, and has generally devastated the community to a point where it is impossible to move forward with this event for 2018. There is too much uncertainty in the coming few months to make commitments to travelling teams or to allow us to entertain holding any kind of successful event due to these logistical challenges facing us as a whole.
We are thankful to the City of Grand Forks and Provincial departments, the RCMP, the Canadian Armed Forces and especially all the volunteers of this great community that are working around the clock to help the City rebuild.
The City will rebound and be stronger than ever, and so will the GFI. The 37th tournament will return June 25-July 1, 2019 and we look forward to bringing you this wonderful event at that time.
Stay Strong Grand Forks!
Yours in Baseball,
Steve Boutang – Tournament Co-ordinator

Last January Women all over marched in reaction to statements and actions by US President Trump. Even in our small town they marched.
A year later the movement continues with an anniversary march on the anniversary of his inauguration. Even here.
Christina Lake held their official Launch of their Canada 150 Event: Homecoming / Retrouvailles Summer Festival (which happens in the summer). The Launch drew a crowd of dozens and was held in the Welcome Centre. Present were MP Richard Cannings, Director McGregor and Mayor Konrad members of the media, tourism staff and the public.
